Thomas Hochradner

Thomas Hochradner has been head of the Salzburg music history department since 2011. He researches and publishes in the fields of music philology, baroque music, church music, alpine folk music, and the history of musical reception, and is editor of the Thematic Index of the Works of Johann Joseph Fux (vol. 1, 2016) and the anthology "Silent Night: The Book of the Song" (2018).

Thomas Hochradner was co-founder and from 2006 to 2011 head of the Institute for the History of Musical Reception and Interpretation, to which he remains a member, and headed the Department of Musicology from 2014 to 2021. He holds subject-specific courses and publishes on music history from the 17th to the 20th century with a focus on music philology, baroque music, church music, reception history, Salzburg music history and folk music research.

Hochradner is the editor of numerous conference proceedings, most recently "The Monk of Salzburg in the Interpretation Profile of the Present" (together with Siegrid Schmidt, 2021), "Paths to Silent Night. On the pre- and post-history of a 'simple composition'” (2021) and “Leopold Mozart. Chronicler and pioneer” (together with Michaela Schwarzbauer, 2022). He has organized over twenty symposiums, including the 16th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music (Salzburg, July 9-13, 2014) as conference chair, and is a member of various editorial boards.
